PE and Sporting Activities

At St Margaret's we have a very wide and varied programme of sporting activities and PE activities. We feel it is very, very important that children have the skills and knowledge to participate in a wide range of competitive and non-competitive activities during school time and after school, involving clubs and tournaments.

The children and staff all worked hard to acheive the Gold Award from School Games.

Well done Everybody!

Our Year 5 and 6 girls took part in the Heywood Schools dodgeball competition. The girls did a fantastic job and worked well as a team when attacking. We were unlucky in some of the games and some of the girls got eliminated whilst turning around to retrieve the ball. Overall we are very proud of the girls and the great job that they did. Thank you to the parents/carers who came to support the team.

Some of our Year 5 and 6 children were lucky enough to be selected to go and watch an NFL game at Wembley Stadium.  The game we watched was Jacksonville Jaguars Vs Philadelphia Eagles. This was an amazing once in a life time experience and the children loved every minute of it. We would like to thank Ash and Ed Start for giving us this opportunity through the JagTag programme.

Congratulations to our new Sports Leaders! The children completed the ‘Play Maker Award’ in one full day training with children from Springside School. In order to be a sports leader the children had to write a letter of application explaining why they would be the perfect candidate for the role.  This award aims to help learners develop leadership skills such as organisation, communication and teamwork, as well as helping to build confidence and self-esteem.

This years sports day was a resounding success, the sun was shining and both children and adults had a great day!

This year’s sports day was a resounding success, the sun was shining and both children and adults had a great day! Thank you to our Sport Leaders for helping to run the Key Stage One sports day.

Year 5 and 6 had a fantastic time at the tag rugby tournament. In our first match we played well and passed the ball before we got tagged, even though we were passing the ball well we found it difficult to move up the pitch which would allow us to score tries. After a team talk we went into the second match feeling more confident and able to learn from the previous match. What a difference we saw! Our team were now not only stringing passes together we were heading towards the touch line and looking like a threat – Mo scored our first try! In the following matches the team improved each time and the confidence of the boys and girls grew. The whole team did a fantastic job and we had stand out performances from Mo, Gracie and Taylor. Future rugby stars maybe? Watch this space.

Our Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 girls represented our school in the Heywood School’s Football Tournament.

After a tricky start the girls really pulled together as a team. Lilly-May showed great character as she took on several of the oppositions defence to get the ball into a position from where we could go on to possibly score. Unfortunately the efforts of the girls didn’t convert to goals but the team spirit stayed throughout. A superb goal keeping performance from Shona who pulled of some show stopping saves kept the games alive.

The effort that the girls put in was fantastic and there were smiles all around! Thank you to all of the parents that came along to spectate, we really appreciate your support. A brilliant team effort from all.  Well done girls!

Our children went to Spring Side School. We took part in a ‘Sporting Stars’ competition. We took four teams from St. Margaret’s to compete in sporting activities. Our Sports Leader’s did a fantastic job in helping organise and run each station. To finish the event our Sport Leaders split into two teams and participated in the events, competing against the Springside Sports Leaders.
